Description

Here is the Orion Nebula.  This is 100% new data as compared to my last attempt, which was polluted by internal reflections.  Being new data, the A-bin FAQ says it should get a new upload.  Well, here we are.

Again, I have conducted an HDR composite using a set of 30s-based subs and a set of 240s-based subs.  I found myself very curious about this process prior to making the previous image.  In this one, I am uploading the two, separate, processed images so that people can see the difference and understand the process more.  As a beginner, I would have appreciated this type of explanation and "show-and-tell" so I hope it is helpful to others.

This image has about 2x as much luminance as the last attempt.  I may return with more data later, but I'm happy with how this has come out so far.  I hope you enjoy it!

Revision A = the 30s data sets which is about 47 minutes of total data (LRGB).  This is stretched nearly the same (using the same ROI in StarTools' AutoDev tool) as the long-exposure data set so it makes an easy comparison of what's possible with much more integration time.

Revision B = the 240s data sets which amounts to about 363 minutes total (LRGB).  This image is up so one can see that the detail in the core is lost.

Revision C = the composite image using a select few stars and the core of M42.

Title: Revision 1: modified Super Structure post-processing

Description: A comment about the "softness" of the image suggested I go back and take a harder look at two modules in StarTools: Super Structure, and Noise Reduction. I spent some time studying Super Structure's description, playing around with presets, and generally exploring. After that, I dug a bit into the Noise Reduction materials and have recreated the image you see here. Better/Worse? What do you think?
