Description

Definitively a challenge from my location, this was the most difficult gradient processing I ever faced. It was nearly a miracle I could squeeze something out of it, given the discouraging appearance of the integrated image!
This target was extremely low on the horizon, nearly in the direction of the city center, with sky illumination and gradients flooding the field. Clouds also where not helping and I had to discard a lot of data.
I used local normalization to regularize the gradients; the signal was deeply buried below the sky glow. It took a lot of patient work to make IC4592 surface and decently visible.
I hope to have in summer the opportunity to observe this object from a darker location where I can see it at an higher altitude in the sky. But, at least, me and IC4592 had now the opportunity to get to know each other!

IC4592
It is a reflection nebula illuminated by nu Scorpii, therefore placed at the same distance of the star, that is 375 pc.
Its shape reminds the head of a horse or of a greyhound dog, according to taste.
