Description

Why not? This is a 33m integration image of M1. Seeing was Poor (2 out of 5 on the Clear Sky Chart) and Transparency was average (or above - can't remember). I set to work on my guiding with the C8 at f/7 and the RST-135. I have been struggling to get under 1" guiding. It was an interesting experiment. I managed to guide under .85" but as the night progressed it got to 1.5" and above. At some point I lost my PA. Not sure why, and had to restart. I did some imaging, and got about 45 mins worth of subs of M1 at 60s gain 0. Clearly some of them, showed awful star shapes. Using APP I removed the ones that looked the worst and ended with 33 mins. Not bad (for my taste) considering: Bortle 9, average RMS over 1s, short integration time, and uncalibrated integration. You can see the slightly "oblong" stars, but heck, like I said, "why not?".

I thought I would share my experience, hoping that I am not the only aspiring astrophotographer struggling to image from inner city and dealing with bad seeing on a consistent basis.

Processing details: Integration using APP, PS for cropping (also had some issues reframing), and minor level curves touch-up, very small denoising with Topaz.

Enjoy!
