Description

Processing:

I tried to use the Forex_Pallet Utility, but still did not get any blue... must just be too weak.  So I wrote a pixelmath script similar to Forex basically subtracting the O-III signal from the Ha Red and thereby leaving room for the O-III (Blue).  I also allowed a good shot of Green since the actual Teal color of O-III is more green than blue, though less pleasing to the eye.  There is only one other version of Abell 77 by Gary Imm in the Abell Planetary Nebula Group

I also include a version processed with Alex's Narrowband Assistant 1.50 but did not pick up the O-III... really only about 10% of trhe H-alpha.  The current version is as we say in medicine "non-physiological".   The wide histogram spread is thanks to GHS, best seen in Alex's version... which was more carefully processed with GHS.

Various Collections for Comparison:

Have photographed this before as part of the Sharpless series.  Below was 13h taken with my Stellarvue 130 with a CCD.

Abell 77 (AKA Sh2 128)

Below also include a wide-field image from my Take 180 ED and grey-scale.

I have a discussion of why grey-scale is perceived to show more detail than RGB here in relation to another grey-scale image.

Basic Information From GalaxyMap:

A 2003 study concludes that this region is actually located at a distance of 9.4 kpc, is about one million years old and is ionised by an O7 star. [1]

Sh 2-120, Sh 2-121, Sh 2-127 and Sh 2-128 are all at about the same distance of 7500 parsecs and are "probably distant HII regions associated with a spiral feature more distant than the Perseus arm".[2]

GENERAL NOTE ON SHARPLESS2 OBJECTS>>>>>>>>>>>>>

There are 313 Sh2 objects.  All now imaged by yours truly.  These are basically the Hydrogen Alpha and other ionized nebulae around the edge of the Milky Way.

This is my collection:

Wide-Angle Hydrogen Alpha Nikon Image Sh2 79-171

Please note there is also a Sharpless2 Group with now more than 3000 examples.
