Description

This galaxy has an angular dimension of 7'x5' and is located at a distance of 26 Mly. It was discovered by the French astronomer Pierre Mechain on march 24, 1781.
The data taking is not a high quality one because the moon was quite present,  the seeing was poor (3.4")  and moreover I had a strange problem with the flats: it seems that when the telecope swaped from the west to the east position, all the dust pictures moved by about 30 pixels along the x axis and 10 pixels along the y axis, an effect which I never observed before. I took me quite a while to discover that but by shifting the flat accordingly I  could recover most of the defaults.

Thanks to Pascal Le Clech for pointing out that this image includes supernova SN 2024gda (officially discovered April 9)
