Description

SUMMARY

This is a narrowband image using the SHO palette of a northern region in Cygnus west of Deneb. In Rev E I have included annotations of HII regions listed in the DWB Catalog. This region attracted me for its many wispy objects reminiscent of the Veil Nebula. I title this DWB145 & Vicinity as this region was the one I first observed in other images before starting this project.

The distance to this area is not well measured, but something on the order of 1500 pc seems to be a common citation.

DWB CATALOG

I created a custom catalog that can be loaded into PI's AnnotateImage script. The reference is DWB's 1969 paper.

I have uploaded the catalog on the PI Forum website.

The paper I used from the above link is a scanned PDF. I used online optical character recognition software to convert the PDF image of the DWB object tables to an Excel spreadsheet. The conversion worked pretty well, but I did need to repair and manipulate the tables through several steps. I then converted the B1950 coordinates to J2000 and saved the final numbers to the catalog format used by AnnotateImage.

IMAGE PROCESSING NOTES

I was pleased to be able to draw out some distinct wispy OIII regions in this HII dominated image. I have enhanced the blue a bit (hopefully not by too much) in order to show that there is indeed some OIII here. Other areas around the Cygnus area have more prominent OIII, but not so much here.

I am going to do another pass through the image processing at a later time, likely in the fall or winter when I am not able to image. This came together fairly well, but there's always so much variability in how one can process NB images. I'll likely come up with a completely different color balance.

CONCLUSION

I am most pleased with finally getting the DWB Catalog in a form that can be used with PI's AnnotateImage script. Ideally, I would have liked to be able to include highly elliptical markings to denote the extent of these regions, but I contented myself to just show the center points as listed in the catalog.

I hope you enjoy the image, and if the posted catalog can be of use to you, that would please me even more. As always, your comments and suggestions are most welcome.
