Description

The Rosette Nebula NGC 2237 is a large H II region of roughly circular shape located at the edge of a giant molecular nebula, in the constellation of the Unicorn.

The nebula is located at a distance of about 5200 light years from the solar system; it has an approximate size of 100 light years.

The Rosette Nebula is one of the brightest nebulae in the night sky

In the northwestern area of the nebula, thin dark veins are observed, clearly evident in the photos, together with small cocoons: these are Bok globules, i.e. denser regions within which new stars form.
