Description

The Ghosts of Cepheus: Vdb 141 Nebulae are actually large clouds of gas (mainly hydrogen – the simplest and most widespread element in the Universe) and dust, scattered throughout the galaxy, which are revealed to us differently depending on their immediate environment. The nebula presented here, VdB 141, consists partly of a reflection nebula area and a larger dark nebula area. This nebula is located about 1200 light-years away and spans more than 2 light-years long. The reflection nebula is limited to the brightest area, where the cloud is perceived to contain a small yellow star. Most of the nebula, however, is obscure, and is faintly distinguishable from the background of the sky in the background. This evanescent and spectral aspect better explains his nickname, more poetic although "unofficial", of "nebula of the ghost"! 🙂In reality, this nebula is only a tiny part of a gigantic complex of clouds of gas and dust located in the constellation of Cepheus. On the image of VdB141 opposite, we can clearly distinguish the nebula in reflection in the immediate environment of the star whose light is scattered, and the darker areas in which protostars form.
