Description

Abell 35 or Sharpless 2-313 is a large but very faint planetary nebula (surface brightness of 17.3) very similar to another popular object, the Helix Nebula. Abell 35 is located in the constellation Hydra and about 1200 light-years from Earth although the central binary star system is approximately 530 light-years away. The image shows a fairly prominent bow shock feature which stands out in OIII filtered images.
