Description

IC 63 - Ghost of Cassiopeia (Gamma Cas Nebula), a faint emission nebula with the H-alpha region located in the constellation Cassiopeia.
The IC 63 nebula is located just a few light-years away from the star Gamma Cassiopeiae, by which it is ionized.
The star Gamma Cas is about 550 light-years away from Earth, and the nebula is about 600 light-years away.
The nebula was discovered on December 30, 1893 by Max Wolf.
Together with the reflection nebula IC 59, they form an object cataloged in the Sharpless catalog as Sh2-185.
