Description

This is my attempt to photograph comet 62P/Tsuchinshan. The images were taken on the night of December 27-28, 2023, when the comet was in the constellation Leo and near the "Hamburger" galaxy (NGC3628).

The individual subs have quite different quality - some had perfect visibility, but many have high clouds.

In the end I was able to take 50 images at 120s with an L-Pro filter using a modded Nikon D7200 and WO Redcat 51.

The process in PixInsight looks like this (I left out some minor details)
- Use WBPP to calibrate, align and integrate the data
- Then separate processing of comets and galaxies/stars....

Comet:
- SXT to remove the stars from the registered partial images
- CometAlign to align the comet in the starless images
- LocalNormalization
- Integrate the aligned and normalized comet data

Stars:
- SXT to remove stars from the master light produced by WBPP
- Process as usual

Blend:
- use PixInsight screening to blend comet and stars/galaxy
- process as usual
