Description

"NGC 7822 is a young star forming complex in the constellation of Cepheus. The complex encompasses the emission region designated Sharpless 171, and the young cluster of stars named Berkeley 59. The complex is believed to be some 800–1000 pc distant, with the younger components aged no more than a few million years. The complex also includes one of the hottest stars discovered within 1 kpc of the Sun, namely BD+66 1673, which is an eclipsing binary system consisting of an O5V that exhibits a surface temperature of nearly 45,000 K and a luminosity about 100,000 times that of the Sun. The star is one of the primary sources illuminating the nebula and shaping the complex's famed pillars of creation-type formations, the elephant trunks".

This is NGS 7822 and the surrounding area.
Lots of color variants during processing, but I went back to earlier versions where the color is close to acquired.
Nice details in the nebula especially with a simulated Hubble palette, but I really like the more natural red. Maybe a repro in the future.

Title: SHO Version

Description: Never happy with the original process. This is a SHO version produced by Bill Blanshan's PI pixelmath tools . Almost straight out of the box!

Title: Simulated Hubble Palette (False Color)

Description: My last and final iteration of this data!
Not sure if there is an improvement, but it is certainly different!
I have worked and worked again with this data and still not sure which process I like the best.

Each have their merits, but none of them really satisfy me.

This version is based on a simulated Hubble palette (synthetic B channel) and I think that possibly it shows the best detail of the three processes. Maybe, maybe not.

Possibly the best, but probably not. Anyway, this is it!

Thoughts?

Title: New HOO Process

Description: New repro from the masterlight.
I used Bill Blanshan’s PM HOO with RC Astro XTerminator processes.
Coloration resulted is very similar to rev. C, but with a bit more “pop”.

Description: New Process -
I decided to go back with a traditional RGB process. I really like the reds for this image.
Unfortunately, I think that there is a slight loss of fine detail resolution with this process, but I always cringed when I saw rev. D, so if for nothing else, this process makes me happier!
Thanks for looking!
