Description

NGC 1579 is a reflection and emission nebula in the constellation Perseus that is sometimes called the "Northern Trifid Nebula." I find it challenging to acquire and process a satisfactory image of this object; my first attempt back in 2012 was a dismal failure. Although I shot the subs from a location with more light pollution this time around, using a wider field of view and faster f/ratio helped quite a bit.

Title: Revision using Starnet/Topaz

Description: The original version of this image suffered from star halos, and the dust clouds could have been brightened a bit. I realized I never tried processing it using Starnet++, so here is the result after processing the stars and nebula independently. Topaz AI was used to reduce the noise, but with sharpening set to 0. I lost the original stacks, so the rotation is just a bit different in this version.
