There is approximately ten thousand years, the Cygnus constellation knew a cataclysm. A star in the agony literally flew into pieces in a violent jolt, becoming particularly bright (a supernova) at the same time as it threw its material in the space.

This material continues to extend by diluting in the space and train a complex network of strands of oxygen and hydrogen today illuminated by the passage of the shock wave stemming from the supernova.

The residual of supernova of the Cygnus constellation represents at present a gaseous shell situated in 1.500 light years of us, whose various parts extend over a visible surface of about ten squared degrees (for the record the Full moon represents 1/2 square degree). I present here, a part of the laces of Cygnus : NGC6995.

Il y a environ dix mille ans, la constellation du Cygne a connu un cataclysme. Une étoile à l'agonie s'est littéralement enfoncée dans une violente secousse, devenant particulièrement brillante (une supernova) en même temps qu'elle jetait son matériel dans l'espace.

Ce matériau continue à s'étendre en se diluant dans l'espace et à former un réseau complexe de brins d'oxygène et d'hydrogène aujourd'hui illuminé par le passage de l'onde de choc provenant de la supernova.

Le résidu de supernova de la constellation du Cygne représente actuellement une coquille gazeuse située à 1 500 années-lumière de nous, dont les différentes parties s'étendent sur une surface visible d'une dizaine de degrés carrés (pour mémoire, la pleine lune représente 1/2 degré carré). Je vous présente ici une partie des dentelles du Cygne : NGC6995.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
