Description

This small faint dwarf galaxy is located only 4 million light years away in the constellation of Sextans (naturally) at a declination of -5 degrees.  It is a magnitude 11.9 galaxy which spans 4 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of just 5000 light years.

The main parts of the galaxy are faint, as most dwarfs are, and I am not able to resolve the individual stars.  Several star clouds and HII regions make it more interesting.  Adding Ha would make it more interesting and I may do that some day.  This galaxy looks similar to Arp 268.  My collection of dwarf galaxies is seen here.

My friend Scott (@wsg) has a wonderful image of this object taken with a large Planewave from Chile here.
