Description

My first image taken from a location other than home.

I took my gear along to a family trip to the Brecon Beacons in Wales and was lucky enough to have some clear skies.

I considered quite a few things when selecting what to image, given the skies were darker than those at home I wanted to go for something that would benefit from the darker skies. Unfortunately the moon was almost full during my stay so I aimed for something as far away from the moon as possible. My focal length was another consideration, the little Redcat isn't the ideal scope for galaxy season so I had to find something that would suit my equipment. In the end I settled on the Iris Nebula, the dark skies helped me capture a bit more of that dust, it hung around in the northern sky all night away from the bright moon and the area was a good fit at 250mm.

Still found it a little tricky to process, achieving a gradient removal I was happy with took a bit of trial and error and I found colour balancing tricky to begin with.

Had a great time away with the family and was happy to come away with some astro stuff too.

All the best and thanks for looking.
