Description

NGC2244 Rosette Nebula (MON) - To the Heart of the Rose (with the C8 EHD)

My first ‘real’ attempt at a DSO through the C8. Up to now, I had been mainly chasing the moon and some planets. But with the moon being past full moon, and well past bed-time, and the planets slowly floating away, it’s time for something else

I re-fitted the camera from the TS94, and aimed at some DSO’s for a couple of nights, getting experience on DSO imaging with the C8, improving on the scope balance and the guiding, etc ….

I aimed at the heart of the rose, slightly off-centre to fit the open cluster and some of the dark clouds near the heart into the frame

Data from a couple of nights, no special filter, just the L-Pro, straight processing, no channel splitting.

A bit under-satisfied with the colours, nebulosity seems reasonable. Seems a bit low on the nebulosity for 6hrs,  but maybe that’s because of the f10 of the C8, given that my reference has mostly been f5 scopes. Somehow I’m not sure about the starts and the overall image. Seems ok-ish, but not sure what’s wrong with it …

Title: Re-processed using BlurXTerminator, StarXTerminator

Description: A full reprocessing, using some new techniques that I applied in later posts, now using BlurXTerminator and StarXTerminator. Deconvolution has helped to get the nebula a bit crispier. But I seem to have developed spike-artefacts on the bigger stars, which also seem to have some chromatic aberration. Not sure what’s the cause of this. Smaller stars seem ok.
