Description

NGC3646 is a large and bright inclined spiral  galaxy  located at a distance of 187 mly in Leo. It has a small elongated core embedded in a fainter inner enveloppe. It seems that the inner spiral pattern is not connected to the bright, massive outer arms, which form a ring around the inner galaxy. This galaxy is larger and shows considerably more details than typical galaxies at similar distances. It is part of the Herschel's catalogue under number H15_3 (class 3 objects: very faint nebulae). Angular diameter: 3.0 arcmin x 1.8 arcmin
