Description

Located in the Vela constellation, in the southern hemisphere, the Vela Supernova Remnant is one of the mos unique deep sky objects in the observable universe. It has an almost bicolored appearance due to the finely separated layers of ionized hydrogen (Hα) and ionized oxygen (O3), that emmits red and cyan color, respectively. These expanding veils and filaments of gas and dust are the remnants of a supernova explosion, and are likely immersed in an older and larger supernova remnant: the Gum Nebula.

The Vela Supernova Remnant is certainly one of the many astronomic treasures of the southern hemisphere and attracts attention due to its large apparent size and unique appearance. However, it is a faint and challenging target to be photographed. I hope you enjoyed the picture as much as I did. As always, constructive criticism, comments and suggestions are more than welcome in the comments section.
