Description

Last night may have been my only realistic shot at imaging Mars close to opposition, as the forecast for the rest of the week is gunk. The next best chance for Mars after this one won't be until January 2025. On this image, I was able to capture some detail including Syrtis Major, a high plain of exposed volcanic rock which extends some 1,500 km north from the planet's equator, and spans 1,000 km from west to east. Also prominent is the polar ice at the North pole and some also in the Southern Hemisphere. All aquisition details in the image. Seeing was fair to poor and transparency was good.
