Description

Nestled within the constellation Scorpius, the Prawn Nebula, also known as IC 4628, is a dazzling emission nebula roughly 6,000 light-years from Earth. Its name originates from its wispy tendrils that curl and resemble a prawn. Despite its vast size, stretching roughly 250 light-years across, the Prawn Nebula is quite faint and invisible to the naked eye. This cosmic cloud is a stellar nursery, where intense radiation from young, hot stars energizes surrounding hydrogen gas. This causes the gas to glow brightly, creating the nebula's vibrant hues.
