Description

In order to gain a little more experience with my experimental combination of planetary camera and 10-inch telescope, I tried a tiny, relatively bright planetary nebula last night.
NGC 7008 was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel in 1787 and has an angular extent of 1.43 arcminutes squared.
One of the common names for it is “fetus nebula,” which I think fits quite well.
NGC 7008 is the shed shell of a red giant that has used up all of its hydrogen and evolved into a final white dwarf.
