Description

My last image of the woefully short 'galaxy season' - M63 is spiral galaxy lying 29m LY away in Canes Venatici. The spiral form is all but hidden in visible light, due to the flocculent nature of the spiral arms around the core - these are awash with bright star forming regions. Clear dust lanes are seen along with a striking linear lane on the right side. Numerous smaller galaxies are visible in the annotated mouseover.

Captured using my Zenithstar 80II ED semi-APO with Altair 183M camera, this LRGB image comprises under 3 hours data (about as much dark sky as is left at this time of year), pre-processed using the useful Sirilic interface, and post-processed in Siril. GraXpert 3 was used to extract gradients and denoise the image, and Startools to fix some very wonky stars.

Title: Binned 2x2 - better colour

Description: Binning the data produces a resolution of 1.8"/px more than adequate for my seeing conditions. I was able to improve the detail and colour in M63 using HDR and by dewarping the starfield in Startools.
