Description

NGC 6960 - the Western Veil Nebula is a supernova remnant in the constellation Cygnus. Also designated Caldwell 34 and the Witch's Broom, the nebula is a diffuse cloud of heated and ionized gas and dust from a supernova explosion about 5000 - 8000 years ago. Located approximately 1470 light years from earth, the nebula is around 100 light-years across and was discovered by William Herschel on September 5, 1784.
